A major road accident occurred on Sunday evening in the Kawardha district of Chhattisgarh, India, on the Raipur-Jabalpur National Highway 30. The incident took place near Akalgharia village in the Chilfi police station area, where a truck and a Bolero collided head-on. The tragic accident resulted in five fatalities, while five others sustained serious injuries. Following the collision, the scene was filled with cries of distress. Police from the Chilfi police station, upon receiving the information, transported the injured to the hospital for treatment.
It is reported that the deceased and injured individuals were teachers and their families from Kolkata. According to a senior police officer, they were on their way to Bilaspur to catch a train to Kolkata after visiting Kanha National Park in the neighboring state of Madhya Pradesh when the accident happened.
According to reports, a total of ten people were traveling in the Bolero vehicle, which was rented from Satna. When the Bolero reached near Akalgharia on the Raipur-Jabalpur National Highway 30, it collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was so severe that the Bolero was completely destroyed. The driver died at the scene, while four others succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Local residents immediately rushed to the scene to provide assistance. They pulled the injured out of the damaged Bolero and informed the police. The Chilfi police station and Dial 112 team arrived at the scene promptly and, with the help of the villagers, took the injured to the Bodla Community Health Center. Doctors declared one person dead on arrival, and three others died during treatment. The remaining five critically injured individuals were referred to the Kawardha District Hospital after receiving initial treatment. The deceased included three women, a girl, and a man. The police are currently investigating to determine the cause of the accident and who was at fault.
