BJP Taunts TMC After Supreme Court Dismisses Vote Counting Plea

The political temperature in West Bengal soared after the Supreme Court turned down TMC’s urgent plea against central officials overseeing vote counting in the state assembly elections. BJP leaders wasted no time in hailing the verdict as a testament to the judiciary’s impartiality and TMC’s string of courtroom defeats.

From the bustling grounds of Mecheda, BJP state chief Suvendu Adhikari declared this development unsurprising. ‘The Supreme Court has a history of rejecting TMC’s multiple petitions,’ he noted, while alluding to future probes into the financial trails behind these legal maneuvers post-results.

Echoing the sentiment, Union MoS Sukanta Majumdar revealed TMC’s intent: they wanted loyal state workers to manage the counts, but the Election Commission’s choice of central staff prompted their Supreme Court gamble. ‘They tried everything to derail a fair process,’ he said.

In a lighter jab, Majumdar advised against dispatching lawyer Kalyan Banerjee repeatedly, citing his consistent losses. ‘He’s simply not up to the mark,’ quipped the minister.

Dilip Ghosh, contesting from Khardah Sadar, dismissed TMC’s efforts outright: ‘Defeat at the polls means defeat everywhere.’ BJP’s national voice Shehzad Poonawalla labeled it desperate theatrics—from strongroom intrusions to judicial appeals—all signs of an impending loss.

TMC’s Shashi Panja responded measuredly, affirming respect for the court’s order and vigilant oversight. With elections at a crescendo, this dismissal reinforces central oversight’s role, potentially reshaping West Bengal’s political landscape as results unfold.
