Bihar: Government Self-Employment Scheme Transforms Lives of Thousands of Rural Youth

The Bihar government is making strides in providing self-employment opportunities to its youth. Through the Chief Minister’s Gram Parivahan Yojana, the future of young people in the state’s remote villages is being shaped. According to information from the Transport Department, in the 11th phase of the scheme, from June 2024 to date, over 3,500 rural youth from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and Extremely Backward Classes have applied to purchase vehicles. Around 900 of these youth have purchased vehicles, while the process of providing grants to other beneficiaries is ongoing. The Chief Minister Gram Parivahan Yojana, implemented since 2018, aims to facilitate the purchase of a total of 55,000 vehicles. In the last seven years, approximately 45,000 rural youth have bought vehicles, and the process of purchasing vehicles and providing grants for the remaining youth is underway.
