In a high-stakes electoral showdown, early counting trends from Assam’s assembly elections signal a resounding endorsement for the BJP’s governance model. Minister Pijush Hazarika, addressing reporters amid the frenzy at Morigaon’s counting hub, asserted that the party’s tireless developmental strides have propelled it toward victory and a second consecutive term.
Under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed transformative projects in roads, health, and education, which Hazarika says have won the people’s trust. ‘Our double engine government has worked non-stop, and the results are evident,’ he stated, pointing to commanding leads in Morigaon and Jagiroad constituencies post-initial rounds. With stringent security in place, the NDA leads on 85 seats, dwarfing the opposition’s 30.
The election on April 9 drew 85.96% participation from 2.5 crore voters, featuring 722 contenders—BJP with 90, Congress topping at 99, AIUDF at 30. NDA partners AGP (26) and BPF (11) complemented the effort, while opposition included Raijor Dal (13), AJP (10), CPI(M) (3), and more, alongside 18 each from AAP and UPPL, TMC’s 22, JMM’s 16, and 258 independents.
These trends underscore a shift toward performance-based politics, where BJP’s focus on inclusive growth and efficient administration appears to resonate deeply. As final numbers emerge, Assam gears up for continued progress under proven leadership.
