The Kerala High Court has eased bail restrictions for Malayalam rapper Vedan, allowing him to embark on an international concert tour. Justice C. Pratheep Kumar removed conditions that previously prevented the artist, real name Hirandas, from leaving the state and mandated weekly appearances before the investigating officer. This significant ruling permits Vedan to perform in Dubai, Qatar, France, and Germany from November 23 to December 20. The court’s decision came after the prosecution raised no objections, provided Vedan agrees to notify the investigating officer of any international travel plans in advance. He will also report to the officer when summoned, with prior notice. The case stems from a December 2022 complaint by a research scholar alleging sexual harassment. Vedan had previously secured anticipatory bail but challenged the restrictive bail conditions. The High Court acknowledged his compliance with bail terms for the past six weeks, deeming it appropriate to modify the restrictions while maintaining necessary oversight.
