In a boost to Atmanirbhar Bharat, the Centre has unveiled impressive outcomes from the PLISFPI. This initiative has not only ramped up production capacities but also opened doors for thousands of new jobs and enhanced export potentials.

Official figures show food processing capacity surging by 34 lakh metric tonnes annually. Companies under the scheme pocketed Rs 2,162.55 crore, driving investments worth Rs 9,207 crore across 165 approved projects.

Job creation exceeded expectations, with 3.39 lakh positions filled against a 2.5 lakh goal. MSMEs stole the show—69 applicants and 40 ancillary units belong to this vital segment, receiving targeted support like Rs 13.26 crore in incentives for 20 units.

Spanning FY22 to FY27 with Rs 10,900 crore allocation, the scheme targets Rs 33,494 crore in processed food output. Sector-wide, GVA has doubled from Rs 1.34 lakh crore to Rs 2.24 lakh crore over the past decade.

Export momentum is evident: processed foods now constitute 20.4% of agri-exports, up from 13.7%. PLISFPI’s focus on innovation, SME empowerment, and global branding positions India as a food processing powerhouse.

This success underscores the PLI framework’s effectiveness in transforming traditional sectors into modern, competitive industries, promising sustained economic dividends.
