In a rallying cry for energy independence, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari urged India to target complete 100% ethanol blending in fuels soon. At a key green energy conclave in New Delhi, he warned of vulnerabilities from importing 87% of oil needs amid global flashpoints like Middle East wars.

The minister laid bare the stark figures: 22 lakh crore rupees spent yearly on fossil fuels that choke the environment. Pushing for biofuels surge, Gadkari envisioned a future free from imported oil shocks. ‘West Asia conflicts remind us why self-sufficiency in energy is non-negotiable,’ he asserted.

Recalling the 2023 E20 rollout by PM Modi, he noted vehicles’ adaptability with simple modifications against issues like rusting. Brazil’s full ethanol adoption serves as a blueprint.

Gadkari tackled resistance head-on, calling out petroleum lobbies fueling E20 skepticism online. He can’t ban petrol-diesel buys but stressed reducing their appeal. Auto makers got a nudge: focus on quality to conquer new markets.

The spotlight fell on green hydrogen as tomorrow’s powerhouse, needing cheaper stations and efficient transport. Producing hydrogen from waste at $1 per kg could catapult India to exporter status. Circular economy initiatives promise vast employment.

Finally, he reassured that CAFE III norms effective April 1 spare most electrics and flex-fuels, signaling policy support for sustainable transport revolutions.
