Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s imposition of a 25% tariff on India has escalated tensions, prompting China’s condemnation. The Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, voiced his disapproval by stating, ‘Give the bully an inch, he will take a mile,’ accompanied by a post citing a conversation between the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Celso Amorim, a top advisor to Brazilian President Lula. The post highlighted that using tariffs as a weapon to suppress other countries violates the UN Charter, undermines WTO rules, and is both unpopular and unstable. Trump’s overall tariff on India amounts to 50%. Trump’s actions are expected to create significant problems for India, and will also likely create inflationary pressures in the US. Experts are suggesting that Trump’s actions will harm the US economy.
