Darbhanga, Bihar erupted in buzz after burglars stole diamond earrings and a costly watch from the purse of Bharati Thakur, mother of BJP MLA Maithili Thakur. The daring heist took place on February 1 during a community meeting in Lala Patti village, Ghanshyampur block.
Accompanying her son to the event, Bharati left her belongings in the car parked outside. Thieves seized the moment of distraction, breaking into the vehicle and fleeing with valuables estimated at several lakhs. The discovery left her stunned as she returned to an emptied purse.
Ghanshyampur SHO Alok Kumar lodged the FIR immediately, launching a full-scale inquiry. Teams are combing the area for witnesses, reviewing surveillance videos, and tracing potential leads. ‘We’ve initiated a detailed investigation and are confident of cracking the case soon,’ the officer stated.
Maithili Thakur, representing Alijnagar and famed for her melodic folk tunes, represents a blend of politics and culture in Bihar. This theft underscores rising concerns over vehicle-related crimes at public events, prompting calls for better security measures.
Local residents expressed shock, noting the audacity of the crime in broad daylight. Police have ramped up patrols in the vicinity, vowing not to rest until the diamonds sparkle back in their owner’s possession. The case spotlights the need for awareness in preventing such opportunistic thefts.
