Wife Handed Over to Boyfriend in Front of Husband, Controversial Verdict by Village Panchayats

A peculiar incident in Saraikela, Jharkhand, involving a husband, wife, and the wife’s boyfriend has become the talk of the town. A village panchayat decreed that the wife be sent away with her lover in the presence of her husband. The lover was also fined. Surprisingly, the police were not allowed to intervene in the matter. The event occurred in Palashdih village, under the RIT police station jurisdiction.

According to reports, the boyfriend and another youth had gone to meet the married woman when they were apprehended by villagers. A panchayat was convened, and it was decided, in front of the woman’s husband, that she should leave with her boyfriend. Villagers strongly opposed police involvement in the matter.

A young man from Chilgu Panchayat in Chandil, along with his friend, arrived in Palashdih, Sitrampur, in a car on Monday night to meet his girlfriend. As they were taking the woman in the car, the villagers surrounded them. They dragged the boyfriend and his friend out of the car and began to beat them. Following this, the woman and the two men were taken hostage.

Upon receiving information, SDPO Sameer Kumar Savaiya and RIT police station in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh arrived with a police team. They attempted to reason with the villagers. However, the villagers insisted that it was a social matter and opposed police interference. Due to the strong opposition, the police had to back down. However, the police remained present at the scene to prevent any untoward incident.

A meeting of the village assembly was held according to social tradition. After the meeting, all parties left with mutual consent. The panchayats of the woman’s in-laws, her parents, and her boyfriend’s village sat together. That is, three panchayats sat together. The decision taken by the panchayat, which lasted from morning to evening, surprised the woman’s husband. While allowing the woman to go with her lover, a fine of one lakh was imposed on the lover. Then the woman was divorced there and sent with her lover. Now this case has become a topic of discussion everywhere.
