Police conducted a major crackdown on illegal alcohol trade in the Chirukunda and Kalubathan areas under the Nirsa sub-division. A joint raid by the Chirukunda and Kalubathan police on Wednesday night resulted in the seizure of a significant amount of both country-made and foreign liquor. During the operation, two alcohol smugglers were apprehended. Raids are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who managed to escape. Nirsa SDPO Rajat Manik Bakhla announced the details of the operation at a press conference held at the Maithon office on Thursday. The SDPO stated that the raids were conducted following directives from senior police officials to combat the illegal manufacturing and sale of alcohol. In the Kalubathan OP area, a raid at the house of Raghunath Tudu in Kaithardih village led to the recovery of a large quantity of alcohol. A liquor vendor named Mangal Tudu was arrested at the scene, and he disclosed the names of other individuals during interrogation. Police are now actively searching for these suspects. In a separate incident, a raid at a hotel near the Junkundar Phatak vegetable market in the Chirukunda police station area led to the seizure of a consignment of foreign and country-made liquor. The hotel operator attempted to flee but was apprehended by the police. Both arrested individuals have been booked under relevant sections and remanded in judicial custody. The SDPO confirmed that these actions will continue and that anyone involved in the illegal alcohol trade will not be spared.
