In a decisive operation, Delhi Police unraveled a theft racket targeting the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Azadpur depot, arresting three men and reclaiming stolen assets worth thousands.
Trouble brewed early Thursday when CISF jawans monitoring CCTV at the high-security zone flagged a shadowy intruder at 10 AM. The call to local police triggered a rapid response, uncovering pilfered items including 100 meters of critical signaling cables, 60 meters of machine cables, check plates, and a pump motor from the housing block.
Azadpur Metro Police Station registered the FIR, and a tech-driven chase ensued. The breakthrough came with the capture of mastermind Ali Ahmad (25) from Jahangirpuri. His partner-in-crime Sanwar (24), also local, fell next. A remand interrogation spilled the beans: the scrap had been sold to veteran dealer Baksud Hussain (66), leading to his arrest.
Key evidence recovered includes 50 meters of premium copper wire. DCP Metro Kushal Pal Singh stated probes continue to check for gang involvement in other metro sabotages.
DMRC authorities praised the vigilance, emphasizing relentless crackdowns to protect the lifeline of Delhi’s commute. This bust highlights the ingenuity of thieves targeting transit infrastructure and police resolve to counter them.
