Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel worshiped cows at Gokul Nagar in Boriyakhurd area of the capital on the occasion of Govardhan Puja and Gouthan Day on October 28. He fed fodder to the cows and dedicated to public the newly constructed Gouthan (cowshed). He said that there is a tradition of celebrating Govardhan Puja in the country. We are celebrating it as Gouthan Day, he added.
While following the tradition of celebrating Govardhan Puja and Gouthan Diwas the Chhattisgarh Government is implementing its ambitious ‘Narva, Garuva, Ghurwa and Bari’ in the state, he said, adding that measures are being taken for preservation of rivers and nullahs apart from carrying out livestock development under this scheme. Development of Narva will ensure availability of water for drinking and irrigation purposes and supply of water to industries, he said.
Gokul Nagar Gouthan campus
The Chief Minister announced to set up of Gobar (cow-dung) gas plant in Gokul Nagar Gouthan campus and two more Gouthans in Raipur Municipal Corporation area. He said that the Gobar gas plant will supply domestic LPG to the people in the nearby areas at much cheaper price. They will produce vermicompost from cow dung and generate income, he said.
The Gouthan has sheds for the cattle to provide them shelter during rainy season. Shade trees are being planted in Gouthan to protect cattle from heat during summer, he said. This Gouthan has been constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs. As many as 500 cattle can be accommodated at this cow-shelter here. Urban Administration Minister Dr Shivkumar Dahria said that the work of identifying the culture of Chhattisgarh is being done by the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister took several initiatives to strengthen financial condition of the farmers, he said. The state will prosper with the prosperity of the farmers, he said. MLA Satyanarayan Sharma and Mayor Pramod Dubey also spoke on the occasion. MLAs Kuldeep Juneja and Vikas Upadhyay, Municipal Commissioner Shiv Anant Tayal and several public representatives and dignitaries were present at the programme.
