Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Assembly Speaker Charandas Mahant on Friday unveiled a statue of former union minister and veteran politician late Vidya Charan Shukla at the garden located just in front of Raipur Municipal Corporation office here.
VC Shukla, a known political face for decades at national level, was martyred along with 30 other Congress leaders in a deadly attack carried out by Maoists in May 2013 at Jheeram valley in restive Bastar region.
While recalling the stellar contribution of VC Shukla to society, Baghel said that Rs we had lost many key leaders in jheeram valley attack and their sacrifices and martyrdom would always be remembered’.
On the occasion, late VC Shukla’s wife Sarla Vidya Charan Shukla and her other family members, freedom fighter Mahadev Prasad Pandey, State’s Revenue Minister Jaisingh Agrawal, Mayor Raipur Municipal Corporation Pramod Dubey, MLAs- Satyanarayan Sharma, Kuldeep Juneja, Vikas Upadhyay and several top personalities were present.
In the statue unveiling programme, Baghel strongly condemned the terrorist attack at Pulwama in Jammu & Kashmir that took place on Thursday.
