The State Government has started the process for distributing Rs 2500 per quintal of paddy to the farmers as promised in the poll manifesto.
The farmers started receiving extra Rs 450 per quintal of paddy in their bank accounts as previously Rs 2050 per quintal of paddy was paid to the farmers.
The farmers have started receiving the amount in their bank accounts, officials informed.
Notably, the Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress party had previously demanded from the Centre to declare paddy’s Minimum Support Price (MSP) at Rs 2500 per quintal .
This apart from a demand to take excess stock of paddy from the State other than its use by Chhattisgarh’s Public Distribution System (PDS) into Central Pool.
The State Government took initiative to provide Rs 2500 MSP per quintal of paddy and that was a key aspect of the Swaminathan Committee report and Chhattisgarh had became the first state in the country to do so .
The State government has procured more than 61.80 lakh tonnes of paddy on Minimum Support Price from 12.63 lakh farmers this year, officials informed.
Paddy procurement would be continued till January 31 this year and is being done from 1,333 primary agricultural co-operative societies’ 1195 procurement centers.
