A somber cloud hangs over the Tamil film industry after producer R.B. Choudhary, father of actor Jiva, died in a horrific car crash near Udaipur on Tuesday. The news broke like a thunderbolt, coinciding with the untimely death of Malayalam actor Santosh K. Nair in another accident the same day.

This one-two punch of tragedies has devastated colleagues, friends, and fans, prompting widespread condolences and reflections on Choudhary’s illustrious career spanning over three decades.

Launching his production house Super Good Films in 1988, Choudhary’s first venture ‘Pudhu Vasantam’ not only introduced director Vikram but also clinched him a prestigious Tamil Nadu State Film Award. His support for emerging talents shone through in backing K.S. Ravikumar’s debut ‘Puriyadha Pudhir.’

The producer’s filmography reads like a who’s who of Tamil classics: Cheran Pandian, Oor Mariyadhai, Gokulam, Nattamai, Sundarapurushan, Mr. Romeo, Suryavansham, Anandham, Kirti Chakra, Jilla, Godfather, and recently Marisan. Each film bore his signature commitment to quality storytelling.

No further details have emerged regarding fellow passengers or the exact circumstances of the crash. Arrangements are underway for Choudhary’s funeral in Chennai. He leaves behind wife Mahjabeen and sons Jiva, Ramesh, and Ashok, who now face an unimaginable void.

Industry voices united in grief. AGS Entertainment’s Archana Kalpathi shared on social media: ‘Shocked beyond words by RB sir’s demise. A true gentleman and blockbuster maker, he’s left a huge void. God bless his family.’

B.A. Raju’s production team added: ‘Deeply saddened by producer RB Choudhary’s tragic end. His decades-long impact on cinema is etched in history. Our hearts go out to his loved ones in this hour of sorrow.’

As the industry pauses to honor him, Choudhary’s contributions remind everyone of the enduring power of cinema to touch lives.
