Tripura has etched a new chapter in its agricultural history with organic wheat outperforming traditional methods, as declared by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday. The state’s pioneering organic wheat crop achieved yields significantly higher than conventional farming, marking a pivotal win for the organic farming movement.

Under Nath’s guidance and with TSOFDA’s backing, the project united various FPOs and progressive farmers. Cultivation thrived in strategic clusters across West Tripura, Sepahijala, Khowai, and Gomati districts, demonstrating widespread adoption.

The numbers speak volumes: while traditional wheat averaged 2.119 MT/ha over recent years, organic variants hit 3.03 MT/ha this season—nearing the national benchmark of 3.5 MT/ha. Minister Nath emphasized this as a testament to organic systems’ robustness in Tripura’s climate.

Farmers’ enthusiasm is palpable, with many crediting the initiative for enhancing crop diversity, nutrition, and livelihoods. This breakthrough not only diversifies Tripura’s farming portfolio but also positions the state as a model for chemical-free agriculture.

Looking ahead, experts anticipate expanded organic wheat programs, potentially boosting exports and farmer incomes. Tripura’s organic revolution is gaining momentum, promising a greener, more prosperous future for its agrarian communities.
