Punjab’s battle against drugs scored a significant victory in Faridkot on May 1, with police nabbing two smugglers carrying over 2 kilograms of pure heroin and substantial cash proceeds. The arrests near the Pakistan frontier expose the persistent threat of transnational drug syndicates infiltrating the state.
Vishal alias Ghoga and Raman, residents of Border Road Awa Basti in Ferozepur, were under the scanner due to their history of involvement in narcotics trade. SP (Investigation) Yogeshwar Singh Goraya detailed how CIA Staff Jaito team, patrolling Dhilwan Kalan, observed the pair loitering at a bus stand bench along NH-54. Their panicked attempt to escape on a motorcycle prompted a chase and interception.
Under DSP Avtar Singh Rajpal’s oversight, the search yielded 2.011 kg of heroin—valued at crores in the black market—and Rs 50,000 in illicit funds. Questioning confirmed the consignment was procured from established suppliers for onward supply. Shockingly, both men had walked free from prison just months earlier in March 2026, only to relapse into crime.
Raman’s rap sheet includes four drug-related cases, and Vishal one, painting a picture of hardened offenders. Now remanded by the court, investigations aim to unravel their entire network, from sources to distributors. A FIR has been lodged at Kotkapura’s Sadar station.
Authorities vow no let-up in the war on drugs. ‘Continuous surveillance and swift action are key to breaking these cartels,’ SP Goraya affirmed. This operation not only disrupts supply lines but also sends a strong message to traffickers operating near vulnerable borders, reinforcing Punjab’s multi-pronged strategy against substance abuse.
