On the auspicious full moon of Vaishakh, marking Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and nirvana, India’s prominent figures extended warm wishes to the nation. The occasion, observed on May 1, saw a flurry of posts on X from the President to state chief ministers.

President Droupadi Murmu’s greeting set a reverent tone: heartfelt congratulations to all followers worldwide. She reminded everyone of Buddha’s eternal relevance in promoting peace and wisdom.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan elaborated on Buddha’s core tenets—compassion, non-violence, and knowledge. ‘Let this day motivate us toward empathy and collective welfare,’ he urged, positioning Buddha’s message as a beacon for contemporary global issues.

Speaker Om Birla offered a philosophical lens, portraying Buddha’s renunciation as a blueprint for true happiness. ‘Reject external pleasures; find solace in inner balance,’ he advised, referencing the Noble Eightfold Path and the call to ‘be your own light.’

From Rajnath Singh’s nod to Buddha’s humanistic inspiration to Nitin Gadkari’s praise for social cohesion, ministers across portfolios aligned on the theme. Shivraj Singh Chouhan called for active contribution to a noble society, while Yogi Adityanath highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s role as the cradle of Buddha’s teachings.

This synchronized outpouring underscores Buddha Purnima’s significance beyond ritual—it’s a national reaffirmation of values like tolerance and service. As the country observes the day with prayers and processions, these voices amplify a message of hope, encouraging personal and societal transformation rooted in ancient enlightenment.
