Savita from Niyad Nellanar Gram Polampalli in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, exemplifies the power of government-backed self-reliance programs. Breaking free from the cycle of daily labor, she now runs a thriving grocery business, earning lakhs annually as a proud ‘Lakhpati Didi.’
The turning point came via the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission and ‘Lakhpati Didi’ campaign, led by District CEO Mukund Thakur. As part of Priya Self-Help Group, Savita secured a 60,000-rupee loan to start Kriti Kirana Store. What began as a small venture has grown into a reliable income source, yielding 1-2 lakhs in pure profit each year.
‘Life was tough with unpredictable wages,’ Savita recounted. ‘Now, my store brings steady earnings. Family helps out, and we’re saving for our kids’ future without financial worries.’ Her success has made her a role model in the village.
District Collector Amit Kumar revealed innovative efforts like four ‘Seva Express’ units, which have empowered around 5,500 women in remote areas as ‘Lakhpati Didis.’ These initiatives are rapidly fostering economic independence among rural women.
Expressing gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and CM Vishnu Dev Sai, Savita emphasized how these schemes have reshaped destinies. Her journey underscores the transformative potential of targeted rural development, encouraging more women to pursue entrepreneurship.
