In a fiery address to the media in Bikaner, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal held the opposition squarely responsible for blocking the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill through a premeditated strategy. The bill, aimed at empowering women in Parliament and assemblies, has ignited fury among female voters, whose backlash Meghwal warned is just beginning to unfold.

Tracing the history, Meghwal noted women’s persistent fight for legislative seats since 1927, ignored by opposition until Modi’s government championed the cause. Passed with consensus in 2023, the legislation gathers dust thanks to successive opposition roadblocks. ‘Every party trots out different excuses—SP wants Muslim women quotas, others push OBC reservations—but these don’t align with the bill’s framework or Constitution,’ he remarked.

The minister criticized opposition leaders for disregarding clarifications from top BJP brass like Modi and Shah. ‘Linking this to assembly polls is irrelevant; our mandate is public service,’ he stressed. Meghwal called for bipartisan cooperation, arguing that fragmented arguments undermine national progress. As elections approach, he forecasted a voter verdict on this ‘anti-women’ posture, underscoring the bill’s potential to transform Indian democracy.
