In a blend of devotion and determination, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Matua Thakur Temple in West Bengal on Sunday, pausing his fiery election campaign for solemn worship. Honoring the temple’s spiritual icons, Sri Sri Harichand Thakur and Sri Sri Guruchand Thakur, Modi shared evocative images from his visit on social media platform X.
‘Today I performed pooja-archana at Matua Thakur Temple. The guiding principles of Sri Sri Harichand Thakur ji and Sri Sri Guruchand Thakur ji keep enlightening our society,’ read his post. Nostalgically, he also uploaded a throwback picture with ‘Boro Ma’ from a previous visit, cherishing the maternal blessings received.
The temple visit followed a high-octane speech at Bangaon’s ‘Vijay Sankalp Sabha’. Targeting the Matua and Namashudra refugees, Modi vowed comprehensive support: ‘I assure all Matua-Namashudra and other refugee families: Citizenship, fixed addresses, all papers, and full rights as Indian citizens will be yours.’
His rhetoric sharpened against illegal immigration. ‘I warn infiltrators loudly from Bangaon: Leave Bengal and India before April 29 if you’ve entered illegally or hold fake papers. Post-May 4, we’ll expel every single one. TMC won’t shield you,’ Modi asserted, rallying the crowd against perceived threats to local security.
Lashing out at TMC’s governance, he mocked their faded slogan: ‘Fifteen years back, TMC rode to power on ‘Ma-Mati-Manush’. Today, they dare not mention it, lest their misdeeds—making mothers cry, surrendering land to syndicates and intruders, pushing people to flee—be exposed.’
With polls nearing culmination, Modi’s strategic outreach to the influential Matua sect, combined with hardline promises on citizenship and security, positions BJP strongly. This multi-layered event highlights the fusion of faith, welfare, and warfare in Bengal’s electoral battlefield.
