Jammu and Kashmir’s war on drugs intensifies as Sopore police collar a trafficker laden with banned medications during a checkpoint inspection. The bust at Bag-e-Sundari crossing falls under the ambitious 100-day drug-free initiative launched to cleanse the Union Territory.

The suspect drew attention during naka checking by Fruit Mandi outpost. Body search yielded contraband including Spasmoproxyvon Plus capsules and Alprazolam tablets, promptly confiscated. Zaid Bashir Bhat, resident of Upper Ashpeer, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, found himself in handcuffs.

Sopore station booked him under NDPS Act provisions. Detectives are now tracing supply chains and accomplices to uproot the racket entirely.

Reiterating resolve, Sopore police pair enforcement with community sensitization programs district-wide. The campaign vows a narcotic-free future, protecting youth from addiction’s grip.

Just days prior, on April 20, Pulwama’s Nehama post intercepted a motorcycle from Hasanwani to Singu Narbal. Beneath the seat lay a green polythene with 7.50 grams of suspected heroin. Riders Mohammad Altaf Lone and Sameer Ahmad Dar, from Turka Wagam and Batpora respectively, are now in custody with NDPS cases filed.

Such operations highlight escalating vigilance, fostering hope for safer streets and healthier lives across J&K.
