In a deepening probe into social media misinformation, Chandigarh authorities have served a second notice to Delhi-based writer Madhu Kishwar. The move follows her alleged role in disseminating a fabricated video that distorted facts about a key constitutional body.
SSP Kuldeep Kaur detailed the sequence of events during a media briefing. A Chandigarh complainant’s report flagged a widely circulated post and video containing blatant falsehoods. Forensic checks confirmed the video’s origins lay elsewhere, exposing it as planted propaganda.
An FIR was filed without delay, triggering a swift initial investigation. Findings pointed to multiple handles amplifying the content, alongside derogatory remarks breaching IT laws. Kishwar’s account was among those flagged for further scrutiny.
Despite an initial summons, Kishwar did not present herself for interrogation. Undeterred, police dispatched a team anew to hand over the follow-up notice, signaling no leniency in the process.
Efforts are underway to collaborate with online platforms and service providers for comprehensive tracking. Kaur reiterated the commitment: ‘Our goal is precise identification of all perpetrators fueling this deceit.’
