Samajwadi Party firebrand MLA Ravidas Mehrotra turned up the heat on Wednesday, launching a multi-pronged assault on the Modi-led Centre and UP’s BJP regime. His remarks, delivered in a candid interview, covered everything from unresolved terror strikes to rampant crime and political vendettas.
The Pahalgam terror attack remains a festering wound, Mehrotra noted, with one full year elapsed and zero accountability. ‘Neither arrests nor eliminations—the Centre has achieved nothing,’ he said sharply. Post-attack, the Army’s cross-border strikes on terror camps showcased resolve, but US intervention allegedly halted escalation via ceasefire, a move Mehrotra deems regrettable.
UP’s law enforcement crisis took center stage as Mehrotra recounted the Ghazipur tragedy: a teenage girl’s rape-murder, followed by violence against SP leaders consoling the family. ‘Jungle raj reigns supreme,’ he proclaimed, indicting the government for women’s insecurity and sky-high criminal morale. Police assaults exemplify law’s collapse, he added.
Tackling cow vigilantism hypocrisy, Mehrotra exposed UP’s lead in bovine killings and meat trade, dismissing government inaction despite religious endorsements like the Shankaracharya’s ‘Rajmata’ campaign. He fiercely denounced an MP’s sexist comment as derogatory, calling for accountability.
Accusing central probes of targeting foes—like those on Mamta Banerjee—Mehrotra advocated judicial adherence. On electoral fronts, he forecasted BJP’s humiliation in Thursday’s West Bengal phase one and Tamil Nadu voting, auguring opposition resurgence.
