Silchar’s law enforcement struck a decisive blow against narcotics smugglers in Assam’s Barak Valley, confiscating heroin worth Rs 23 lakh and detaining two key suspects. The development was revealed by officials on Wednesday.

A tip-off prompted police to stake out the Ramanagar Bypass in Silchar. Spotting a suspicious four-wheeler, officers halted the vehicle for an intensive inspection. Hidden inside 39 soap containers were 456 grams of high-purity heroin.

Sources estimate the market value of the contraband at Rs 23 lakh, a significant dent in the shadowy underworld economy. Fahim Ahmed and Hanif Ahmed Laskar, the apprehended individuals, face serious charges.

Early inquiries point to a supply chain originating in Mizoram, routed via Silchar for nationwide distribution. The arrests could unravel a broader conspiracy spanning state lines.

Leading the raid under SSP Sanjiv Saikia’s guidance, ASP Crime Rajat Kumar Pal praised the joint efforts of Silchar Sadar and Tarapur police outposts. ‘Intensive questioning is ongoing to expose the full syndicate,’ he affirmed.

Investigators are tracing connections to larger interstate gangs, aiming to net more perpetrators. This proactive measure reflects Assam Police’s zero-tolerance stance on drug menace.

As the probe deepens, officials emphasize relentless pursuit of traffickers threatening community safety. Barak Valley remains a hotspot for such illicit activities, demanding sustained enforcement.
