In a candid outburst at a public event in Ara, popular Bhojpuri actress Amrapali Dubey voiced her frustration over the Women’s Reservation Bill not making it through the Lok Sabha. The bill, aimed at reserving 33 percent seats for women in legislatures, has been a beacon of hope for gender parity in Indian politics.
“This has been a long-standing demand,” Dubey remarked. “Every woman was waiting eagerly, but it fell short. Politics needs women’s perspectives at minimum 33 percent—it’s non-negotiable. We’ll have to see how much more time this takes.”
Shifting focus to state politics, Dubey welcomed Bihar’s new CM Samrat Chaudhary, who assumed office on April 15 after Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath post-Nitish Kumar’s exit. She drew parallels to Kumar’s tenure, during which Bihar saw significant strides in infrastructure and economy.
“The onus is huge on Chaudhary, just like it was on Nitish ji,” she stated. “Bihar has high expectations, and we trust he’ll deliver on development promises.”
Dubey’s day included a devotional visit to Patna’s iconic Patan Devi Temple, a key Shakti Peeth marking the spot of Maa Sati’s right thigh. Known as the city’s guardian deity, the shrine features powerful forms of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. Her social media post from the temple garnered widespread attention, blending faith with her call for women’s political rights.
