In a major boost for Indian motorsports, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed on Monday that Formula 1 is poised for a grand return to India ahead of 2027. After nearly 13 years away, the high-octane races could once again light up the Buddh International Circuit, thanks to the government’s dedicated efforts.

Addressing the media, Mandaviya said track-related hurdles have been cleared, with completion of upgrades anticipated in six months. He underscored the ambition: ‘Our goal is to host F1 before 2027, reigniting the passion for speed in India.’ The original Indian GP, held three times between 2011 and 2013 in Greater Noida, was a spectacle that drew global attention.

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel swept all three editions, but persistent issues like excessive taxation and escalating expenses led to its removal from the F1 calendar in 2014. Despite the setback, the circuit’s reputation for thrilling overtakes and demanding corners kept fans hopeful.

Looking ahead, the minister outlined plans for MotoGP races, signaling a renaissance in Indian motorsports. This initiative aligns with national priorities to bolster sports infrastructure and encourage young talent. With momentum building, India’s tryst with Formula 1 promises to be more exhilarating than ever.
