BOLPUR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah dropped a bombshell at a packed election rally in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, directly implicating Trinamool Congress leaders in every high-profile corruption racket unearthed in the state.

Speaking on April 13, Shah listed a litany of scams—from the notorious cash-for-query and cash-for-jobs rackets to smuggling of cattle and coal, public distribution system frauds, and brazen land encroachments. ‘Wherever corruption rears its ugly head in Bengal, TMC’s name inevitably surfaces,’ he charged.

The senior BJP leader described the prevailing ‘jungle raj’ as suffocating the common people, who he said are desperate for a governance overhaul via the ballot box. His speech blended sharp critique with bold promises, captivating the audience.

A key pledge was the unwavering implementation of the Uniform Civil Code upon BJP’s victory. Shah criticized practices allowing polygamy, stating, ‘No more multiple marriages for a select few—we’ll enforce one law for every Indian.’

Shah didn’t spare CM Mamata Banerjee, holding her accountable for the deteriorating law and order, particularly women’s insecurity. ‘A female CM, yet women live in fear after dark,’ he lamented, contrasting it with BJP’s vision of round-the-clock safety.

Recalling brutal assaults at medical and law colleges, he guaranteed an end to such atrocities. ‘Women will ride scooters fearlessly at midnight under our rule,’ he envisioned.

On election security, Shah issued a no-nonsense ultimatum to TMC rowdies eyeing poll violence. ‘Don’t interfere on April 23 or 29. Post-May 5, expect no mercy—jail awaits,’ he declared, reinforcing central intervention for peaceful voting.

This aggressive outreach underscores BJP’s strategy to corner TMC on governance failures, positioning itself as the harbinger of reform and security in West Bengal.
