The fire broke out on April 12 in the Feicham Veng locality of Ward No. 3, triggered by a transformer short circuit that ignited Kishan Yadav’s grocery wholesale store and swiftly engulfed surrounding homes.
The proximity of Jamkhomang Haokip’s structure amplified the danger, putting lives and properties at immediate risk. As panic spread among locals, Assam Rifles sprang into action, arriving at the scene without delay. In a coordinated effort with firefighters, they deployed water tankers and other equipment to battle the flames head-on.
Their strategic approach and relentless efforts successfully subdued the fire, curbing damages to approximately Rs 20 lakh. Relief swept through the community as confirmation came that no one was injured or killed. With the blaze fully extinguished and normalcy restored, the troops stood down, having exemplified operational excellence.
