In a significant diplomatic move, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri arrived in Paris on Sunday to spearhead the India-France Foreign Office Consultations. This comes after President Macron’s landmark visit to India earlier this year in February 2026, signaling robust continuity in high-level engagements between India and its European allies.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Misri will join forces with Martin Briens, Secretary General of the French Foreign Ministry, to lead discussions on a wide array of topics. Defense partnerships, nuclear energy for civilian use, space programs, cyber and digital security, AI breakthroughs, cutting-edge innovation, and strengthening cultural and people-centric links form the core agenda. The talks will also address pressing global and regional challenges.

Misri’s itinerary includes sideline meetings with prominent French leaders, ensuring multifaceted outcomes. His next stop is Germany for parallel consultations with State Secretary Geza Andreas von Gyer, reinforcing India’s strategic outreach in Europe.

These visits follow recent trips by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Macron to India at the start of 2026. They offer a vital opportunity to assess the full spectrum of bilateral relations and accelerate collaboration in key domains.

Echoing the February summit, where PM Modi and Macron formalized the ‘Special Global Strategic Partnership,’ the roadmap for defense, tech, and health sectors aims for ‘Horizon 2047.’ Highlights from that visit included kicking off production of H125 helicopters at Vemagal through an Indo-French venture, eyeing a ‘Made in India’ debut by 2027. The BEL-Safran pact for ‘Hammer’ missiles marks a win for self-reliance efforts.

The ‘India-France Year of Innovation 2026’ initiative promises fresh collaborative sparks, with Modi hailing the alliance as a bedrock for stability amid global turbulence.
