UP Farmers in Crisis: Akhilesh Blasts Yogi Govt on Hailstorm Losses

Uttar Pradesh’s agricultural heartland is reeling from freak weather events, and opposition leader Akhilesh Yadav isn’t holding back. The Samajwadi Party president has unleashed a barrage of criticism against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s government, calling out its failure to aid farmers whose crops were obliterated by sudden rains, high winds, and hail.

In his Sunday statement, Yadav detailed the catastrophe engulfing key districts including Mainpuri, Kannauj, Barabanki, Sitapur, Hathras, Ayodhya, Meerut, Pilibhit, Mathura, Hardoi, Sonbhadra, and Shravasti. Wheat fields lie waterlogged and ruined, mustard crops battered, pushing families toward economic ruin. No surveys, no payouts, no helping hand— that’s the grim reality on the ground, he asserted.

‘From the CM to ministers, it’s all photo-ops and hollow declarations,’ Yadav fumed. He contrasted this with escalating farming costs and erratic weather, painting a picture of a government out of touch. Procurement delays mean farmers can’t even sell what little they salvaged, and potato growers are dumping produce at throwaway prices due to a crippled mandi system.

Recalling his own administration’s initiatives—like constructing dedicated markets for various crops—Yadav accused the BJP regime of sabotaging these efforts to benefit big business. ‘This is farmer-hostile politics at its worst,’ he declared. The SP chief called for urgent interventions: fair pricing, swift relief funds, and robust market reforms to prevent further distress.

As political temperatures rise ahead of elections, Yadav’s remarks underscore deepening rural discontent. Will the government respond with action, or continue with rhetoric? Farmers await answers amid mounting losses.
