India’s golden voice falls silent. Legendary singer Asha Bhosle passed away at 92 in Mumbai, prompting an outpouring of sorrow from Union ministers and political leaders.

Rajnath Singh, the Defence Minister, took to X to lament the void left by ‘Swar Samragni’ Asha Bhosle. He praised her contributions to thousands of film songs and albums, noting how generations have hummed her melodies. ‘This is an irreparable loss to the music world,’ he stated, extending sympathies.

Nitin Gadkari, reflecting on their long friendship, told reporters, ‘Asha Tai sang in numerous languages, bringing fame to India akin to her sister Lata Didi. It’s a huge blow for her family.’

Piyush Goyal’s tribute on social media was poetic. ‘Her voice wove unspoken emotional bonds, reaching new heights in Indian music for decades. Those connections live eternally in our hearts. Condolences to all affected.’

Jitendra Singh shared a poignant personal note: ‘Asha ji’s voice shaped our childhood. She’s not gone; her songs remind us she’s here, echoing ‘Jaaiye aap kahaan jaaiyenge.”

Mamata Banerjee mourned the ‘great musical talent’ who ruled hearts across generations, especially in Bengal with her Bengali tracks and 2018 Banga Bhushan award.

The singer’s son Anand Bhosle confirmed her death at Breach Candy Hospital. Mourners can pay respects Monday morning at Lower Parel’s Casa Grande, with cremation scheduled for evening at Shivaji Park.
