In a significant development for aspiring lawyers, the Indian National Congress has confirmed that final interviews for its flagship INC Legal Fellowship will be completed by April 12. Party leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi shared this update, highlighting the program’s massive success.
What began as an innovative outreach has snowballed into a national sensation, attracting more than 2,000 applications. Singhvi noted the department’s excitement and vowed to scale up the initiative substantially in future iterations.
A stringent selection process has whittled down applicants to a elite shortlist, now facing the final hurdle: interviews conducted by a powerhouse panel. This includes Prashanto Chandra Sen, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court; Apar Gupta, advocate and founder of the Internet Freedom Foundation; and Alia Waziri, a prominent advocate and writer.
Tailored for law graduates holding three- or five-year LLB degrees from recognized institutions, the fellowship spans three months with a ₹50,000 monthly stipend. Launching its inaugural edition on March 3, it positions young professionals to collaborate with parliamentarians on pressing legal, constitutional, and policy matters.
Participants will engage in legislative research on bills, amendments, and committee reports; prepare concise notes for parliamentary questions and debates; and track pivotal events in governance and rights. Singhvi stressed the need for a strong cadre of legally trained experts ready to bolster constitutional rule.
The fellowship, slated for June-August, serves as a vital platform connecting academic legal training with real-world legislative work. With interviews imminent, Congress is poised to onboard a new generation of legal minds, reinforcing its commitment to democratic institutions and human rights advocacy.
