In a high-octane election gathering in Thanjavur, AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami drew sharp lines between his party’s farmer-centric legacy and the DMK’s shortcomings. The venue, heart of Tamil Nadu’s rice bowl, was painted as ‘Thanjavur, the land of gold,’ emphasizing its unmatched agrarian significance.

Palaniswami detailed AIADMK’s relentless fight for Cauvery waters, from parliamentary disruptions lasting 37 days to clinching a landmark resolution in the state’s favor. He hailed J. Jayalalithaa’s vision for Thanjavur Smart City and successive AIADMK governments’ development thrust.

DMK faced the brunt: their opportunistic alliances, especially with BJP, were mocked. ‘Our coalitions are rooted in good governance; theirs reek of hypocrisy,’ he declared. Despite long central tenures, DMK brought no real progress to Thanjavur, he charged.

A bombshell accusation targeted Stalin for inking hydrocarbon pacts endangering Delta farmlands, while AIADMK safeguarded agriculture. Palaniswami vowed to reclaim Tamil Nadu’s rights, urging voters to back AIADMK’s proven track record over DMK’s empty promises.

This rally underscores escalating poll rhetoric, with AIADMK leveraging water wars and regional pride to rally support.
