Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district is witnessing a healthcare revolution with Tata Memorial Centre stepping in to enhance cancer facilities at Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua. Union Minister Jitendra Singh revealed on Saturday that the partnership includes cutting-edge radiation treatments, drastically reducing the need for patients to seek care in metro cities.

Local residents, long plagued by inadequate specialized services, will now access world-class oncology care closer to home. This development is part of broader efforts to strengthen medical infrastructure, with MD programs slated to commence at GMC Kathua this year. These postgraduate courses will not only elevate educational standards but also build a robust cadre of specialists for the area.

What makes the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda region extraordinary is the central government’s swift approval of three medical colleges in quick succession—a rare feat nationwide. GMC Kathua, established in 2019, has accelerated its growth trajectory impressively. In a parallel move, an MoU was inked between GMC Kathua and Jammu’s Institute of Integrative Medicine, promoting synergy between clinical practice and research.

Minister Singh posted on X about these milestones, underscoring their role in modernizing healthcare delivery. By integrating advanced therapies and research, this initiative promises to lower mortality rates, improve patient experiences, and position Kathua as a model for regional health advancement. The future looks brighter for countless families relying on these services.
