Begusarai, Bihar erupted in panic on Saturday as a hidden country-made bomb exploded during a police raid, wounding five officers. The mishap unfolded in Vrindavan village, Navkothi PS area, where a police-STF team was digging in an orchard following tips on stolen loot from a Darbhanga dacoity.
Among the casualties were ASI Vipin Ojha, trainee SI Gudiya Kumari, and three STF members. The detonation happened the moment they began excavating a suspicious spot, hurling debris and causing multiple injuries from splinters and burns.
All victims received immediate attention at Sadar Hospital and were soon released with minor wounds, though monitored for trauma. The raid was part of ongoing probes after apprehending key accused Deepak Kumar; prior recoveries included substantial silver and gold from the village.
Witnesses spoke of pandemonium post-blast, with bloodied officers struggling to regain footing. Officials believe the device was a deliberate trap by robbers to thwart investigations.
