In a move to bolster agricultural productivity, the Indian government is increasing natural gas supply to fertilizer units by 5%, pushing it to 95% of their average six-month usage. This decision factors in current gas reserves and incoming LNG shipments, as disclosed on Saturday.

Household PNG and CNG transport users continue to enjoy uninterrupted 100% supply. The Petroleum Ministry highlighted rapid progress: 4.15 lakh new PNG connections activated since March 2026, with 4.55 lakh more registrations in the pipeline. Over 26,000 consumers have ditched LPG for PNG.

Commercial LPG demand is met with 1,13,233 metric tons sold post-March 14, 2026—matching 60 lakh-plus 19-kg cylinders. Daily sales peaked at 7,140 metric tons on March 10.

To curb commercial LPG shortages, CGD firms including IGL, MGL, GAIL, and BPCL are incentivizing PNG for commercial establishments like eateries. States are being nudged for swift CGD infrastructure nods, with a 10% extra LPG quota as carrot for PNG migration supporters—18 regions already onboard.

Fast permissions for CGD projects now come via a three-month highway ministry window. A draft model CBG policy promises states investment-friendly rules, tying future LPG perks to its adoption.

These initiatives signal a strategic pivot towards sustainable energy, ensuring fertilizer security while expanding clean fuel access nationwide.
