In a strong endorsement, UP Women and Child Development Minister Baby Rani Maurya on Saturday celebrated the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023, calling it a game-changer for India’s political landscape. Addressing journalists at the BJP’s state office in Lucknow, she underscored how the bill’s 33% quota in legislative bodies will position women as pivotal influencers in governance.

This constitutional milestone, spearheaded by PM Modi’s government, signals a resolute pledge to women’s empowerment nationwide. Maurya argued it transforms democracy by fostering greater inclusivity and responsiveness to diverse needs.

She delved into statistics: women’s voter turnout and involvement in economic activities have surged, but parliamentary seats lag behind. ‘The disparity ends here—this act ensures balanced representation,’ Maurya declared.

Citing evidence from around the world and India, she explained that female leadership sharpens focus on critical areas like healthcare and schooling, while narrowing gender disparities boosts global economies. Over the last 10 years, landmark programs have uplifted women: millions gained financial inclusion through bank accounts and SHGs, with tangible gains from gas connections under Ujjwala, clean water via Jal Jeevan, sanitation drives, and better maternity support.

Panchayati Raj institutions showcase success with 46% women representatives delivering strong governance. Extending this to Parliament and assemblies promises more accountable, citizen-focused laws.

Far beyond quotas, Maurya viewed the act as a blueprint for equity and justice, essential for India’s vision of development by 2047. Women’s decisive role is non-negotiable for true progress.
