Nalanda University in Rajgir, Bihar, hosted a landmark international conference marking 50 years of diplomatic relations between India and Portugal. Foreign Secretary (West) Sibi George was the chief speaker, addressing an audience on the theme of diplomacy intertwined with culture, language, and sustainability.

Drawing from centuries-old connections, George highlighted how historical exchanges have shaped enduring people-to-people links. ‘In today’s world, our diplomacy must embrace broader dimensions to build a sustainable future,’ he stated, calling for enhanced cooperation.

The Ministry of External Affairs shared highlights on social media, praising the event as a vital forum for multidimensional dialogue.

This summit comes amid a flurry of diplomatic activity. Just days earlier, George led India’s side in the 12th Foreign Office talks with Turkey in New Delhi. Co-chaired with Deputy Minister Beris Akinci, the meeting delved into key sectors like trade, tourism, innovation, energy, education, cultural exchanges, public linkages, and combating cross-border terrorism.

Both nations aligned on regional peace efforts and global challenges, building on their 2022 Ankara consultation. They agreed to hold the next round in Turkey soon.

Jaishankar’s recent bilateral with Fidan in Vientiane adds momentum to India-Turkey relations, showcasing India’s balanced approach to nurturing ties with diverse partners for shared prosperity.
