In a compelling address, Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan positioned cost audit as the cornerstone for building a competitive economy vital to India’s ‘Developed India’ aspirations. At the ICMAI-hosted national seminar in Mumbai, he inaugurated proceedings by stressing how cost efficiency will propel the nation forward amid global challenges.

‘Viksit Bharat is not just about growth numbers; it’s about prudent resource management where every expenditure fuels progress,’ the governor declared. He described cost audit as an indispensable strategic instrument in economic governance, driving efficiency, minimizing waste, and ensuring optimal resource allocation.

With India gearing up for more free trade pacts and fiercer international competition, the governor highlighted cost audit’s role in providing benchmarking tools, fostering ongoing enhancements, and enabling data-driven choices. This is crucial for sectors influencing public life, from infrastructure to cutting-edge tech like AI.

Radhakrishnan advocated for greater transparency and accountability through cost audits in essential services—energy, health, telecom, education—where costs hit citizens directly. Drawing from his role overseeing 29 universities and 3 million students, he called on ICMAI to ramp up outreach, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, to demystify cost accountancy careers and attract young talent.

The event spotlights how cost audit builds trust among stakeholders, enhances productivity, and contributes to value generation. It serves as a vital forum for exploring evolving trends in the economy and the evolving scope of cost management professionals, all in sync with the national vision for development.
