The crisis unfolded between March 26 and April 6, with provinces bearing the brunt of nature’s fury. Hundreds of villages were inundated, 9,000-plus homes destroyed or damaged, and 15,500 acres of vital farmland lost. Over 500 animals perished, exacerbating food shortages and economic despair for agrarian communities.
Heartbreaking stories emerge from the rubble. In Khost’s Maton district, recent rains eroded a wall in Gingini village, crushing three women to death and leaving two children hospitalized. Nangarhar fared no better, with 10 fatalities and six injuries from collapsing roofs in flood-hit zones including Khogyani and Haska Mina.
Broader impacts include 958 homes fully demolished, 4,155 partially ruined, and extensive infrastructure damage: 325 km of roads, irrigation systems, drinking water sources, and commercial sites. Seven individuals remain missing, and impending rains signal worsening conditions.
