India’s campaign in the Billie Jean King Cup Group-I Asia/Oceania hit a snag Thursday, succumbing to Indonesia in a decisive encounter at New Delhi’s DLTA Complex. The Indonesians swept the singles rubbers, forging ahead irresistibly in the tournament’s round-robin phase.

Vaishnavi Adkar’s battle with Priska Madelyn Nugroho captivated fans, ending in a 7-6(3), 6-7(3), 6-3 loss for the Indian. Adkar’s grit leveled the second set via tiebreak, but Nugroho dominated the finale. Sahaja Yamalapalli then faced a steep challenge, dropping a straight-sets 6-2, 6-1 decision to Janice Tjen, clinching the tie for Indonesia before doubles commenced.

Rutuja Bhosle and Ankita Raina were locked in doubles action against Indonesia’s pair when reports emerged.

South Korea maintained their flawless run, dismantling New Zealand with Dayeon Back’s 7-5, 6-3 win over Valentina Ivanov and Sohyun Park’s emphatic 6-0, 6-1 thrashing of Monique Barry. Korea joins Indonesia at the summit, unbeaten so far.

Thailand staged a commanding performance, blanking Mongolia 3-0. Thasaporn Naklo overwhelmed Anu-Vajin Gantor 6-1, 6-0; Pacharin Chiepchandech dispatched Khongorzul Aldarkhishig similarly; and Pengthatn Plipuech with Kamonwan Yodpetch sealed it 6-0, 6-0 in doubles.

Round-robin matches continue through Saturday, with the leading duo progressing. This setback challenges India to regroup and chase qualification.
