In an exclusive interview from Mumbai on April 9, AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan declared that his party is leaving no stone unturned in the West Bengal assembly elections. Labeling BJP and TMC as indistinguishable political entities, he underscored AIMIM’s robust campaign strategy.

‘We’re allied with Humayun Kabir’s outfit and have fielded candidates on 15-16 seats,’ Pathan revealed. The visit by AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi to the state, marked by overflowing rally venues, signals strong public backing. ‘This affection from the people will surely convert into votes,’ he predicted confidently.

While hopeful of success, Pathan cautioned against overconfidence: ‘We’ll know the outcome on April 4. Why celebrate prematurely?’

Addressing the bulldozer demolitions plaguing parts of India, Pathan was unequivocal. ‘These actions defy the Constitution. The Supreme Court has ruled them unconstitutional. Governance must adhere to laws, not mechanical destruction,’ he asserted, urging a return to constitutional norms.

Commenting on the uproar over Mallikarjun Kharge’s Gujarat statement from April 8, Pathan said, ‘He’s an experienced politician. His words sparked outrage, BJP protested vigorously, and now he’s retracted them. That’s the end of it for me.’

AIMIM’s Bengal foray represents a bold bid to capture disaffected votes, potentially fragmenting the opposition to TMC’s rule. Pathan’s remarks highlight the party’s growing ambitions beyond its Hyderabad stronghold, amid a fiercely contested poll season.
