Diplomatic momentum is building between Washington and New Delhi as US Ambassador Sergio Gor revealed a breakthrough in US-India trade negotiations. Speaking after consultations with top US officials, Gor confirmed consensus on a trade agreement, with an Indian team scheduled for Washington later this month.

The announcement followed Gor’s fruitful dialogue with USTR Ambassador Jamieson Greer. On X, Gor highlighted how the talks propelled President Trump’s vision for trade expansion in the region. ‘Eager to welcome the Indian delegation by April’s end,’ he noted.

Gor’s whirlwind DC tour included a memorable dinner with President Trump on April 8. ‘Discussed his historic achievements, unwavering resolve for global stability, and the bright prospects for India-US ties,’ Gor posted alongside a shared photo.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick was next on the agenda, with conversations focusing on a bilateral commercial roadmap. They explored a fresh MoU to integrate India’s AI capabilities into the US tech landscape, enhanced Indian presence at SelectUSA, and increased pharma investments to fortify supply chains.

The Commerce Department amplified the news online: Lutnick and Gor are driving a framework to unlock India’s vast market for US goods, targeting over $500 billion in exports to 1.4 billion consumers.

The day started with Vice President JD Vance, while Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri landed in DC to advance holistic bilateral relations.

This builds on the February 6, 2026, interim deal that eased Indian tariffs on key US exports like machinery, farm produce, chemicals, and medical gear, while opening US doors wider for Indian goods.

With Minister Piyush Goyal’s prior WTO talks setting the stage, the April delegation will iron out legalities, rollout plans, and future steps—heralding deeper economic integration amid global uncertainties.
