The dawn of decision day broke over Kerala as voting got underway on Thursday in the fiercely contested assembly elections, following three weeks of relentless campaigning. Nearly 2.71 crore eligible voters streamed towards 30,471 polling stations in 140 constituencies, ready to chart the course for governance.

In a celebrity twist, Malayalam icon Mohanlal arrived at Nemom’s polling booth by 6:45 AM, standing in line alongside Education Minister V. Sivankutty and Congress’s K.S. Sabarinathan. The sight drew crowds and cameras, amplifying the electric atmosphere.

Incumbent CM P. Vijayan led by example, voting promptly at his local center. BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar was among the first-wave voters, while Central Minister Suresh Gopi joined the queue in Guruvayur at 6:30 AM. V.D. Satheesan, UDF convenor, cast his ballot in Kochi with family.

Preparations kicked off at 5:30 AM with mandatory mock polls, transitioning seamlessly into actual voting by 7 AM. Queues snaked through Thodupuzha, where seniors spearheaded participation, and Malappuram’s CHMM LP School, where enthusiasm overflowed pre-opening.

Vattiyoorkavu BJP hopeful R. Shrilekha voted swiftly at her 209th booth, declaring unwavering faith in victory amid the massive electoral machinery. In Malappuram, IUML veteran P.K. Kunhalikutty foresaw UDF dominance: “Expect a decisive mandate.”

Inclusive measures shone through with specialized booths for women and disabled operators, alongside 884 pristine model stations. Security was airtight with 76,000+ officers deployed, targeting 2,500 sensitive sites with strict protocols.

Kerala’s polls embody more than democracy in action; they reflect a vibrant populace exercising their sacred right, with outcomes poised to redefine power dynamics in this southern powerhouse.
