A routine administrative check on hotels in Garhwa ended in multiple roadside marriages. The joint operation aimed at curbing illegal activities in commercial guest houses saw teams raiding various establishments and detaining over a dozen couples. Faced with potential social stigma and jail terms, the families of the young men and women intervened, reaching a consensus that marriage was the most appropriate path forward. Upon the completion of legal formalities and submission of bonds, the couples chose not to wait for a temple ceremony. Instead, they performed marriage rituals right outside the police station on the public road, sparking a wider local debate on social ethics.
