Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership propelled a landmark decision as the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) nodded to two hydropower giants in Arunachal Pradesh. With a total outlay surpassing Rs 40,000 crore and 2,920 MW capacity, these projects are set to electrify the state’s future, enhancing infrastructure and creating jobs in leaps and bounds.

Spotlight on Kalai-II: This 1,200 MW powerhouse on the Lohit River in Anjaw district demands Rs 14,105.83 crore over 78 months. Annual generation of 4,852.95 million units positions it as a trailblazer in the Lohit Basin, bolstering state grids and national energy balance. THDC India Limited and Arunachal’s joint venture drives it, backed by central aid of Rs 599.88 crore for infra and Rs 750 crore equity support. Locals get 12% gratis power and 1% for LADF.

Not to be outdone, the 1,720 MW Kamla project across three districts will invest Rs 26,069.50 crore in 96 months, yielding 6,870 million units yearly. NHPC Limited leads with state partnership; flood moderation gets Rs 4,743.98 crore, infra Rs 1,340 crore, mirroring power benefits.

Infrastructure boom awaits: 29 km for Kalai-II, 196 km for Kamla, complemented by essential amenities. This duo promises employment surges, regional prosperity, and a greener energy footprint, cementing Arunachal’s role in India’s power renaissance.
