Jaipur’s Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium buzzed with excitement on Wednesday as Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde officially launched the Indian Football League by Rajasthan United Football Club. The inauguration not only signaled the start of thrilling matches but also served as a platform to advocate for sports’ transformative power.
In his keynote speech, the Governor underscored how engaging in sports fortifies both body and mind, essential in today’s fast-paced world. He motivated the assembled players to pour their hearts into every game, aiming for peak performance that inspires others.
Bagde lauded the ‘Khelo India’ initiative as a game-changer in fostering nationwide sports participation. This program has democratized access to training facilities and competitions, empowering aspiring athletes from diverse backgrounds.
Tracing football’s storied past, he revealed its ancient roots spanning more than two millennia, evolving into the modern spectacle pioneered in England during the 1800s. The sport’s international governance began with FIFA’s establishment in Paris in 1904, uniting nations like France, Belgium, and others in a shared passion. Women’s inclusion in the Olympics at Atlanta 1996 marked a milestone in gender equality within athletics.
Shifting focus to India, the Governor highlighted the 1990s boom in women’s football, crediting West Bengal’s pioneering efforts. He honored Nagendra Prasad, the visionary who founded key clubs in Kolkata, igniting the flame of football fervor in eastern India.
Addressing the young crowd, Bagde appealed for greater involvement in sports to boost fitness and cognitive abilities. With government schemes like Khelo India driving progress, he envisioned a fitter, more dynamic India. The league’s launch promises fierce competition and memorable moments for football fans across Rajasthan.
