TMC Alleges Election Commission BJP Puppet in Bengal

The political temperature in West Bengal has soared as Trinamool Congress spokesperson Jay Prakash Majumdar unleashed a barrage of criticisms against the Election Commission. In an interview, he alleged that the poll panel is operating under the central government’s thumb, specifically targeting TMC and exerting undue influence over state machinery.

Defending Mamata Banerjee’s decision to contest from Bhabanipur, Majumdar described her as an unchallenged candidate with deep-rooted local support. ‘People see her as one of their own, ensuring a historic win,’ he said, dismissing any notion of vulnerability.

Majumdar didn’t hold back on the EC’s alleged overreach, claiming it has infiltrated the administration and police covertly. He pointed to suspicious officer transfers designed to favor BJP interests, warning that any breakdown in law and order would be on the Commission’s head.

He turned the spotlight on BJP’s national agenda, slamming Amit Shah and the Centre for their Bengal fixation. Bengal’s electorate, he believed, would see through the gamesmanship. Regarding women’s reservation, TMC touted its early implementation of 50% seats for women at local levels, contrasting it with BJP’s ‘belated and opportunistic’ bill after over a decade in office.

This escalating war of words highlights the fiercely contested terrain of Bengal polls, where control over institutions could sway outcomes in this crucial state.
